Massage Cupping is a modern form of vacuum therapy. By creating suction and vacuum pressure, Cupping is used to soften tight muscles and tone attachments, loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue, bring hydration and blood flow to body tissues, move deep inflammation to the skin surface for release, and drain excess fluids and toxins by opening lymphatic pathways. Cupping therapy is incredibly versatile and the basic movements can easily be customized to accomplish a wide variety of techniques, from lymphatic drainage to deep tissue release.
Gua sha is a healing technique of traditional East Asian medicine. The technique used in Gua Sha massage is that strokes made by the Gua Sha instrument go in a downward motion from the head down to the ankles. The instrument is drawn across the skin where an injury or imbalance is, and a distinctive reddening of the skin, known as “Sha”, is observed. This reddening is a good response and brings an immediate and lasting benefit of reducing inflammation, coldness, tightness, and pain from the superficial and deeper layers of the body. Modern research shows that the anti-inflammatory and immune protective effect persists for days following a single Gua sha treatment. This accounts for its effect on pain, stiffness, fever, chill, cough, wheeze, and nausea, and why Gua sha is effective in acute and chronic internal organ disorders.
